Galatasaray have signed Juan Mata on a free transfer, with a one-year deal in place for the midfielder. His contract has the option for one more year, and the move has been made official by the club.

Mata joins Mauro Icardi as the most recent to make the move to Turkey. The PSG striker has joined on a loan deal for the 22/23 season with no option to make the transfer permanent. Former Barcelona youngster Yusuf Demir has also joined the club from Rapid Vienna.

The Spaniard left Manchester United upon the end of the season, when his contract expired. He was linked with a move to Manchester United’s rivals, Leeds United, but a transfer never materialised for him.

The former Spain international had a brilliant spell with Chelsea in the Premier League, before sealing a move to United. However, things didn’t work out for him, as playing time began to be limited for him.

At 34, Juan Mata has now taken on a new challenge in Turkey with the likes of Dries Mertens and Haris Seferovic also making the move to the club in a very impressive transfer window. The midfielder has agreed a salary worth €1.9 million per season, including bonuses.
