It’s no secret that Josko Gvardiol is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe. The RB Leipzig man was close to signing for Chelsea last summer, but the move fell through.

The West London side have maintained their interest in the Croatian but could find it difficult to sign him given his £89 million release clause which becomes active in 2024. The Bundesliga side also recently extended his contract until 2027, but that doesn’t seem to have deterred any of the big clubs from trying to sign him.

Josko Gvardiol is expected to make a big money transfer soon

Liverpool reportedly held talks with RB Leipzig over Gvardiol during the January transfer window. But, they were not able to reach an agreement with them over a transfer.

The player himself has proclaimed that he is a Liverpool fan and has a soft spot for the club to this day. As a result, he could choose a move to Anfield over the other options available to him.

Manchester City are also interested in signing the youngster since Pep Guardiola is an avid admirer of his. They have a number of prolific centre-backs at the club right now but could be set up for the next decade with a talent like Josko Gvardiol.

Real Madrid have also been linked with the 21-year-old’s signature in recent weeks. But, it seems unlikely that they will spend that kind of money to sign him right now. Although the Croatian would be keen to play for the Spanish giants, nothing has been finalised as of yet.
