Joshua Kimmich has emerged as a target for Real Madrid in the summer of 2024. The Bayern Munich midfielder is out of a contract in 2025, and Los Blancos are looking to sign him in order to have a leader in midfield when Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are expected to leave.
The Germany international captains the club in Manuel Neuer’s absence, and is one of the best midfielders in the world. His passing ability, vision and chance creation is unparalleled, and he occasionally chips in with an eye-catching goal as well.
Real Madrid want Joshua Kimmich to lead their midfield
The 28-year-old is entering his prime years, and has won everything there is to win with Bayern Munich. The big question is whether he will be interested in a new challenge away from Bavaria. If he does, there is none bigger than Real Madrid, who are serial Champions League winners.
While Bayern have maintained a firm grip over the Bundesliga, European success has eluded them since their 2020 win. Madrid have won the title for the 14th time since then, and are in the semi-final again this season.
Joshua Kimmich has also played at right-back, doesn’t have to be a traditional midfielder if he joins Real Madrid. Los Blancos are already spoilt for options in central midfield, with Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and soon, Jude Bellingham, already in their squad.
As a result, it could be difficult for the team to convince the German midfielder to make the move, and leave an important role that he has at Bayern right now.
