Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has been awarded the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award following his performances for club and country.

The 20/21 season saw the player lift the Champions League trophy with the London club, and he also won Euro 2020 with Italy following the club season. Jorginho also helped Chelsea end their Super Cup curse by helping them lift the UEFA Super Cup against Villareal, which ended in a penalty shoot-out.

Kevin De Bruyne and N’Golo Kante were the other two players nominated for the Player of the Year award alongside the Italy international. De Bruyne made it to the finals of the Champions League, won the Premier League, and was defeated by Italy in the Euros which ruled him out of contention.

While Kante was also Chelsea’s star as they won two European trophies, he could not achieve the same feat with France. Jorginho’s all-around influence for every team he plays with sees him lift the award in 2021.

Edouard Mendy was awarded the goalkeeper of the year award, N’Golo Kante picked up the midfielder of the year award, and Thomas Tuchel was given the Men’s Coach of the Year award for his work with Chelsea as the Blues ran riot at the awards.

Ruben Dias was given the defender of the year award, while Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland earned the forward of the year for his incredible displays with Dortmund as they lifted the DFB Pokal at the end of the previous season.
