Jorg Schmadtke is set to join Liverpool in the coming days. The deal has been completed between the two parties, and it will be officially announced soon.
As revealed by Fabrizio Romano, he will be starting in a short-term role for the summer transfer window. And he will be working alongside Jurgen Klopp to rebuild the team’s midfield by signing new players.
Jorg Schmadtke to join Liverpool imminently
“If it happens, it would not be a Jurgen Klopp signing because we are both German or both know each other,” First team manager Jurgen Klopp said when asked about Schmadtke. “That would have nothing to do with it. I can say that.”
In his previous role at Wolfsburg, Jorg Schmadtke was able to sign the likes of Jonas Wind and Wout Weghorst to bolster the team and improve results. A similar impact will be expected when he arrives at Liverpool on June 1st.
Targets from the Bundesliga such as Ryan Gravenberch will be scouted for a transfer. And it will be interesting to see which midfielders and attackers are signed for the club in order to rebuild the team with several players leaving at the end of the season.
Schmadtke will work alongside chief scout Barry Hunter and head of recruitment Dave Fallows to reshape the squad for the new era. Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton is one of the first targets for the club this summer, with personal terms already presented to the Argentinian.
