According to reports from Reuters, El Mundo, El País, McAfee founder, John McAfee, was found dead in a Barcelona prison. The Spanish Department of Justice has stated that his death was most probably caused due to suicide.
Even McAfee’s lawyers have confirmed his death to The New York Times. One of his lawyers has even gone as far as to state that his demise was “the result of a cruel system that had no reason to keep this man in jail for so long.”
McAfee, who was being held in a Spanish prison since October 2020, was pending extradition to the US. He was facing several charges of tax evasion, and securities fraud related to his alleged cryptocurrency scheme. His extradition was approved by the Spanish courts this morning, with an opportunity for appeal.
McAfee’s life over the years!
McAfee’s life was always in the limelight! He’s released in which he un-installs McAfee Antivirus under the influence of drugs. He has claimed to have engineered a device that can block NSA surveillance. McAfee also ran for president of the United States twice, in 2016 and 2020! He also used $105,000 for a promotional tweet to boost cryptocurrency or initial coin offering.
McAfee also got into a feud with Intel when Intel renamed the McAfee antivirus as Intel Security. He sued them for trademark infringement. But this was later resolved in a settlement with Intel. McAfee has been always in the eyes of law enforcement for something or the other. In 2012, he was also arrested for drug and firearm charges. McAfee somehow managed to escape and was o the run later that year. He was also wanted by the Belize police for questioning in relation to his neighbor’s murder.
McAfee’s last years
McAfee was allegedly involved in multiple crimes other than murder. Even a Showtime documentary was made in 2016 to prove it. McAfee claimed to have over $200 million in judgments against him in other legal cases, which he refused to pay for.
Recently, McAfee claimed that he was on the run from the CIA. He also tweeted a picture of himself on a boat holding a gun. He had tweeted multiple times that he would never kill himself. These tweets have now led to conspiracy theories about his death. The US Department of Justice, however, refused to make any comment on the matter.
