Joao Felix is set to join Chelsea on a loan deal for the rest of the 22/23 season. The two clubs have reached a verbal agreement over the transfer, and the official paperwork should be carried out in the coming days to complete the deal.
The move is a straight loan, and will not have any option to become permanent. In fact, Felix will be extending his contract until 2027 with Atletico Madrid prior to leaving.
Joao Felix to join Chelsea on loan for 22/23
Rumours suggest that Diego Simeone could be on his way out of Atletico Madrid at the end of the season. The Argentine has overseen the most successful period in the history of the club, and has made them Champions League regulars while also earning most of their silverware right now.
However, a breakdown in the relationship with Joao Felix is one of the reasons why El Cholo is planning to leave. And in the event that he does, Felix could be convinced to play under a new manager upon his return.
Otherwise, if he is to leave the club, he could be sold for a higher fee since his contract will run for the next four years.
Chelsea will be covering 100% of the player’s salary, which is projected to be around €250,000 per week. With Armando Broja ruled out with injury, and Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang failing to produce consistently, there will be a lot of pressure on Felix to deliver right after his arrival.
However, this does not mean that Chelsea have stepped back from the deal for Christopher Nkunku. The RB Leipzig striker will be joining the club in June, as the deal has already been finalised. Until then, Joao Felix will be leading the line at the club.
