Joao Felix to Chelsea: Verbal agreement for €11 million loan deal

Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Atletico Madrid for the signing of Joao Felix. The forward is expected to make the move to England on a loan deal with no option to buy.

The board wanted Felix to leave the club during the January transfer window, especially after their Champions League exit. And in spite of interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, the West London club have surged ahead in negotiations to sign him.

Joao Felix expected to join Chelsea soon

The Portugal international has accepted the offer in principle, and is convinced by the long-term project of Chelsea. It should be noted that nothing has been signed as of yet, and final negotiations still need to be carried out for the two parties to sanction the transfer.

Chelsea will be without Armando Broja for the remainder of the season, and need a striker that can solve their goalscoring issues upfront. With the arrival of Joao Felix, fans will be hopeful that things can change during the latter half of the season.

Things have not been going in the favour of Graham Potter’s side at all. They are currently 10th in the table, and have found goals extremely hard to come by. Kai Havertz hasn’t been able to provide much consistency in a centre-forward role either. And so, Felix could be the missing piece of the puzzle for the team if he can find the back of the net in games.

Chelsea have already completed the signings of Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana during the January transfer window. They have also agreed a deal for Christopher Nkunku. And potentially, Joao Felix could join that list.

The Blues have lost all hopes of winning silverware this season, and will need to dig deep to somehow finish in the Champions League spots by the summer.
