Joao Felix will be returning to Atletico Madrid in the coming weeks, with Chelsea not expected to make his loan move permanent. The Blues had signed him on a temporary deal worth £11 million during the January transfer window, which did not include a buy option.
Even though he has performed quite well, scoring four times for a team that has had to undergo a massive goalscoring problem, the future plans do not include him. This is especially true after the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino.
Joao Felix will not be signed permanently by Chelsea
“We have been informed that Poch does not count with João Félix for Chelsea. He will return here, we’ll see… we’ve nothing planned,” Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo recently confirmed.
Due to the difficult relationship between Felix and Diego Simeone, it could be difficult for him to be accommodated at Atletico Madrid. But, he has a contract with them until 2027 and the club wants to sell him for a huge fee if a sale were to be involved, in order to cut their losses on the €120 million they paid for him to Benfica.
The Portugal international is one of the first to leave Chelsea this summer, with Denis Zakaria also expected to leave and return to Juventus following his loan spell. The pair will be joined by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the way out, with the striker likely to rejoin Barcelona.
The likes of Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus Cheek are also expected to leave Chelsea for new clubs in the coming weeks.
