Joao Felix is expected to stay at Chelsea beyond his one-year loan spell. The Portugal international has shown signs of his quality during his time at the club. But perhaps, hasn’t been able to live up to the £9 million loan fee that was paid for half a season.
He has only scored two goals during his time so far, but has emerged as one of Chelsea’s better attacking outlets in what has been a disaster of a season. Felix has been very open about his love for London and the club, and could be open to staying for the long-term.
Joao Felix expected to stay at Chelsea next season
Issues with Diego Simeone could prevent him from playing at Atletico Madrid, even if he returns. And given that he is enjoying much more freedom on the pitch, it could be in everybody’s best interests if he stays at Chelsea. The problem, though, is that he has a long-term contract with Atletico and that the Blues will not be in the Champions League next season.
With over £600 million already spent on transfers alone, it is doubtful how much more Todd Boehly will be able to spend without being sanctioned by FFP. Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto are already expected to sign for the club in the new season. And having Joao Felix on top of that could be problematic unless they sell enough players.
It remains to be seen how Mauricio Pochettino structures his Chelsea side – and more importantly, which players he chooses to keep at the club when he takes over.
