Joao Cancelo’s move to Bayern Munich was arguably one of the most shocking transfers of the January window. The full-back decided to leave Manchester City in the last days of the transfer period, and has signed on a loan deal with the option to buy.

He was convinced by their project for the present and the future, and has already registered an assist in his first appearance. And with the crazy quality present throughout the rest of the squad, Bayern could field a serious challenge for the Champions League and PSG in the Round of 16.

The Portugal international was offered to Real Madrid before choosing Bayern. But, Los Blancos rejected the chance to sign him because they are happy with their current squad. They are also trusting Vinicius Tobias to take up the right-back position for the future, which is why they didn’t move for Joao Cancelo.

Real Madrid only signed Endrick in the January transfer window, and the Brazilian is expected to join the squad in June 2024 when he is available to make the move.

With Noussair Mazraoui injured and Benjamin Pavard out of contract soon, the move for Joao Cancelo seems like a great fit. The attack-minded approach that he brings will help him fit in perfectly.

And, he could also become a long-term member of the squad if the buy option is triggered. With his sheer versatility, he could also fill in for Alphonso Davies if the Canadian needs a back-up option.
