While Sony retains the linear broadcasting rights, showcasing the matches on its Sony Sports channels, it has agreed to sub-license the digital streaming rights exclusively to JioHotstar. This collaboration leverages the strengths of both companies, combining Sony’s strong television presence with JioHotstar’s extensive digital reach.

Timeline of the Historic Test Series Across England

The much-anticipated series will span five iconic cricket venues in England. Following the opener in Leeds, subsequent matches will take place in Birmingham starting July 2, Lord’s from July 10, Manchester on July 23, and culminating at The Oval beginning July 31. Each location holds a rich cricketing legacy, promising thrilling encounters between two powerhouse teams.

Fans will now have flexible access options, whether they prefer traditional TV viewing through Sony Sports or streaming live on JioHotstar’s digital service, which emphasizes inclusivity and interactivity.

Future Coverage Extends Beyond the Test Series

Importantly, this collaboration extends beyond the immediate Test matches. The agreement reportedly includes the 2026 white-ball series in England, featuring three ODIs and five Twenty20 Internationals. JioHotstar will provide streaming coverage for these eight matches, ensuring continuity and convenience for cricket aficionados.

Sony’s exclusive eight-year deal with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), secured last year, forms the foundation of this arrangement. Running through 2031, this long-term contract grants Sony comprehensive broadcast rights for England cricket within India. The ECB played a pivotal role in facilitating the current deal, underscoring their commitment to maximizing cricket’s reach.

Statements from Industry Leaders Highlight Collaboration’s Impact

On Monday evening, representatives from both JioHotstar and Sony Pictures Networks India publicly confirmed the partnership, emphasizing its benefits for fans. Sanjog Gupta, CEO – Sports and Live Experiences at JioHotstar, shared his excitement:

“This collaboration is a win-win for all stakeholders involved – especially Indian Cricket fans – and serves the broader sporting landscape. The combination of JioHotstar’s deep digital footprint with SPNI’s broadcast network will universalise access to India’s tours of England. As the habitual destination for Cricket viewing, JioHotstar is committed to offering millions of fans – inclusive, intuitive, interactive and immersive viewing experiences. We will continue to leverage the power of our story-telling, consumer-focussed product features and connectivity to unlock infinite possibilities of serving fans on our platforms.”
