More About Jio and Qualcomm Collaboration

As per the Money Control report the upcoming Jio phone will feature Qualcomm’s chipset promising a comprehensive 5G experience without putting too much strain on consumer’s wallets. Chris Patrick, Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Handsets emphasized the importance of facilitating a transition from 4G to 5G. “The collaboration aims to accelerate the shift from 4G to 5G in India providing users with a straightforward upgrade” stated the senior executive.

Furthermore, Qualcomm executives express confidence in the market potential of cost 5G smartphones based on data from GSMA indicating a user base of, up to 2.8 billion globally with India playing a significant role. The company is working closely with developers to come up with real-life uses for 5G technology that will change how consumers experience things. Previously Jio launched a range of 4G feature phones, like JioPhone and JioBharat, in India. Unfortunately, these devices did not sell as the company had hoped.

The primary deterrent could be attributed to the inherent limitations of these phones compared to full-fledged smartphones. While they offered pre-installed apps like YouTube and WhatsApp, users were constrained from downloading additional applications. With the imminent launch of the Jio 5G phone, the company aims to address this issue head-on, leveraging its collaboration with Qualcomm to provide consumers with a more versatile and feature-rich device that truly enhances their digital experience.
