Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has informed that the company “believes in generations,” but the tune has been changed in recent months. Few PS5 titles like Horizon Forbidden West, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and possibly God of War Ragnarok are cross-gen games. Other Sony execs have suggested that PS4 support will continue for at least three more years for these titles.
During the issue of Edge Magazine, Ryan claimed in an interview that it was time for games that “can only be enjoyed on PS5”. He is saying that simply the “right” and “rational” thing to do is support the PS4.
“We do feel that we have a responsibility to that huge community, and an opportunity to carry on making great PS4 games for as long as the need is there. And I think that is the right thing to do, it’s the rational thing to do, and I think you will see a tail with PS4 that you did not see with PS3. But that said, as time passes, you’re going to see more and more emphasis on PS5 development, and the PS5 SKU will be the lead SKU.”
Remember that this does not mean that any PS5 exclusive is happening there. By the way, we have two big names in Demon’s Souls and the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. From Jim Ryan’s gaslighting, it is very tough not to be carried out. If he accepts the fact and says that they have changed their strategies and clear out the reasons, many people may go along. Crossgen support is brilliant for the company, but six months ago, he said the exact opposite. It should be cleared that which game will cross-gen or which won’t be.
