Southampton are considering Jesse Marsch as a candidate to replace former head coach Nathan Jones. The American was recently sacked by Leeds United after spending just under a year with the Yorkshire club.

The likes of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard were also looked at. But as things stand, Marsch is leading the race to be named the new manager.

Jones spent three months in charge of the club, and was only able to win one game during his time on the bench. As a result, the club decided to move swiftly to relieve him of his duties. And the Saints now want a new man in charge before their next game against Chelsea on the 18th.

The American’s past connection to the Red Bull group, having coached the New York Red Bulls in the past. And that is the time since when Southampton have been keeping an eye on his development.

They now believe it is important to act fast and have a new man in charge of the first team. However, it will be a very tough task for Jesse Marsch since the team is at the bottom of the table, and is at a serious risk of being relegated at the end of the season.

An official announcement from Southampton about their head coach position can be expected in the days before 18th.
