More than 130 electric guitars, amplifiers, and other musical equipment owned by legendary English guitarist Jeff Beck will go up for auction in London next year, Christie’s auction house said Friday. Beck, was hailed as a “guitarist’s guitarist” for his playing in The Yardbirds and decades of innovative solo records.
Often mentioned in the same breath as guitar legends such as Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, with many praising his innovative style and technical prowess. Beck died aged 78 in January, just a few months before his colossal collection of instruments went under the hammer with new owners.

Jeff Beck’s Iconic Guitars, Amps, and Gear to Be Auctioned in London Next Year
One of the most important pieces in the collection is Beck’s long-time 1954 “Oxblood” Gibson Les Paul guitar, a fixture of his music (and cover of his seminal 1975 album Blow By Blow). Auction-wise, the guitar is expected to sell for somewhere around £350,000 and £500,000. Also up for grabs is the “Tele-gib” guitar that was used on the track “Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers,” from the same record, which could net as much as £100,000 to £150,000.
Sandra Beck, the guitarist’s widow, shared her thoughts on the sale, saying that it was a difficult decision to part with Jeff’s beloved instruments, but she recognized that it was his wish to share them with the world. She said what she hopes happens with the new owners of these guitars is that they will somehow connect to one of Becks’ geniuses.
The collection will be on view in Los Angeles from December 4 through 6, and then a full auction preview at Christie’s London headquarters beginning January 15. The auction is set for January 22. Describing Beck as one of the greatest guitarists of his era, Amelia Walker, Christie’s Specialist Head of Private & Iconic Collections said: ‘He offered fans a unique melding of aggression and fluidity in his playing, both qualities that cemented him as one to watch on stage.’
