## The Plot That Has Everyone Talking

The storyline revolves around Seo Mi-rae — a webtoon development manager experiencing professional fatigue — who avoids complicated offline relationships and instead enrolls in an advanced digital matchmaking simulation. [IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4357198/) Within this virtual world, system-generated companions are customized to reflect her preferences. [IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4357198/)

But real life keeps interrupting. In reality, she keeps crossing paths with Kyeong-nam, played by Seo In-guk, the two gradually becoming “overtime work buddies” — their slow-burn connection building alongside her virtual adventures, hinting at a more grounded romance that complicates her idea of the perfect match. The concept beautifully explores [virtual reality](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_reality) as emotional escapism — a theme that resonates deeply in 2026.

## What Makes This Different

Director Kim Jung-sik explained: “One of the most appealing points of ‘Boyfriend on Demand’ is that the main character experiences different romantic relationships with various individuals, in diverse settings and universes, all within a single series. As such, viewers can enjoy a wide spectrum of romantic comedies.” [IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4357198/)

This marks Jisoo’s first time leading a television series as a solo lead, following her previous roles in *Snowdrop* and the 2025 zombie romantic comedy *Newtopia*. [IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4357198/)
