Jason Denayer has decided to sign for United Arab Emirates club Shabab Al Ahli as a free agent. The player has been a free agent for several months, after leaving Lyon upon the expiry of his contract.
Several Premier League clubs held talks with him to try and sign him. West Ham United, Leicester City and Bournemouth were among the clubs to have registered their interest in him. However, Wolves held concrete talks with him over a move.
Jason Denayer to sign for Shabab Al Ahli
“I know him very well. You are talking about a centre-back that I know very well, I played against him in the Champions League,” Wolves’ Bruno Lage said.
“We are talking about a player who has played in the Champions League and for his national team. Let’s see what can happen. I have a good opinion about him. I played two times against him in the Champions League when I was at Benfica.”
Jason Denayer was expected to return to the Premier League with Wolves, having played for Manchester City and Sunderland in the past. However, he will soon be travelling to Dubai and will sign the contract after finalising the details.
The move will see him play under with former Monaco coach Leandro Jardim, and he joins a growing list of players to leave Europe to play in the Middle East.
