Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura becomes the oldest player in professional football history at 53 years of age

Football is a physical game. It takes a toll on the body. Playing at the highest level requires a player to keep himself at the best body shape possible. Normally players retire at the age upward of 35. But some players who manage to keep themselves fit play even at 40 years, for example, Buffon is still playing at the highest level in Juventus.

Former players like Paolo Maldini and Claudio Pizzaro continued their top-level careers even after turning 40. But almost no one could play close to 50 years.

Miura is also the oldest player and oldest goalscorer in professional football history. The 53-year old striker’s name is written in the Guinness World Records after he took the mantle from Sir Stanley Matthews – who hung up his boots at 50 years of age.

Kazuyoshi Miura was born in February 1967. Playing football at 53 years of age is a huge task. But if you love the work you do, nothing is impossible!

The Japanese striker has inked his name into the history books.
