Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been handed an eight month ban for breaching FA betting rules, effective immediately. He has also been fined £50,000 and will play no part in any football related activities until January of next year.
He has also been warned about his future conduct with regards to FA’s betting rules, and will now serve a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The suspension comes on the back of what has been the best season of his career so far, having scored 20 Premier League goals this season.
Ivan Toney banned for eight months after FA betting rules breaches
“The Brentford FC forward was charged with 262 breaches of FA Rule E8 in total between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. The FA subsequently withdrew 30 of these breaches and he admitted to the remaining 232,” the official statement from the FA read.
“His sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission following a personal hearing. He is permitted to return to training only with his club for the final four months of his suspension starting from 17 September 2023.”
“The independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons for these sanctions will be published in due course, and The FA will wait to review them before commenting further.”
Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United were interested in signing Ivan Toney this summer, following his impressive performances. However, it now seems certain that he will not be leaving Brentford, since he won’t be able to play in any capacity.
