The newest price hikes of the Netflix Streaming service in the United States are beginning to take effect. Subscribers may have recently received notice from the company that their plan’s price would change beginning with their next billing cycle. Recently users of the service are receiving an email informing them that their monthly payment would increase beginning March 30th, 2022.

The price increases are being rolled out to existing Netflix customers “over weeks,” according to Netflix spokesperson Kumiko Hidaka, who added that some subscribers may have already been notified and seen the adjustments implemented.

Netflix members were originally notified of the impending price hikes in late January. The basic plan is now $9.99 per month (up from $8.99), the standard plan is $15.49 per month (up from $13.99), and the 4K plan is $19.99 per month (up from $17.99). Netflix will now charge up to roughly $20 per month for access to its service, marking a big milestone for the streaming provider.

Netflix has long stated that its price will continue to rise in line with the value it provides. That means producing more TV series, movies, and even video games, as well as spending a lot of money to bring that material to life.

Netflix will have to find the money for such material from somewhere unless it adds an ad-tier, which it hasn’t suggested it will do anytime soon. Price hikes on a sporadic basis and password enforcement that is still in its early stages are two options.

Netflix started in its initial announcement that users would be contacted by email 30 days before the price increases take effect. Sure, it’ll cost you an extra buck or two every month, depending on the plan you’re on. But when you add up all the other subscriptions we pay for — some of which may be experiencing price hikes as well — it all adds up! Let’s hope the Netflix mobile games that were recently launched live up to the excitement.
