The ISL game between ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC has been postponed to a later date. The cause behind the postponement is due to a Coronavirus case detected in the Mariners’ squad.
This is the first case of the virus that has been detected in the ISL squads, since the players have been kept in a bio bubble to ensure their safety. They have taken quick measures to ensure that the disease does not spread to the other teams.
ISL postpones their first fixture due to COVID
Here is the official statement released by the ISL board in regards to the postponement of the fixture:
“Hero Indian Super League (ISL) has decided to postpone Match No. 53 between ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC scheduled to be played today, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at PJN Stadium in Fatorda. The League will look to reschedule the fixture to a later date.
The decision has been taken in consultation with the League’s medical team after a ATK Mohun Bagan player tested positive for Covid-19.
The League will work closely with the medical experts to monitor and ensure the safety of all the players and support staff in the squad and others involved.”
The I-League has been suspended for several weeks due to an outbreak of cases. The top leagues in the world, such as the Premier League and Serie A are also having to postpone their games due to the virus. And now, the Indian top-flight is having to do the same to protect those involved.
