ISL 2024/25: Ahmed Jahouh’s Sudden Odisha FC Exit Raises Eyebrows

In a dramatic development, Odisha FC’s midfield maestro Ahmed Jahouh has parted ways with the club in the middle of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season.

The decision comes as a major jolt for the Juggernauts, who are currently vying for a crucial playoff spot. Jahouh’s abrupt exit, without any explanation, has left both fans and the club bewildered.

What Led to Ahmed Jahouh’s Exit?

On Saturday, Odisha FC released an official statement via social media highlighting the unexpected departure of the Moroccan midfielder. The statement read: “Ahmed Jahouh has unilaterally left the club without providing any reason or information to the club. The club considers this as a serious breach of contract and is considering an appropriate action. Further details will be communicated once the due process is followed.”

This shocking revelation has stirred significant speculation about the reasons behind Jahouh’s decision. The lack of communication from the player has only added to the mystery surrounding the situation.

Disciplinary Issues: A Possible Trigger?

Jahouh’s final appearance for Odisha FC occurred during their clash against FC Goa on February 6, 2025. The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Juggernauts, with Jahouh receiving his marching orders after accumulating two yellow cards. This incident marked his third dismissal of the season — a statistic that raised eyebrows within the club’s management.

Following this episode, head coach Sergio Lobera openly expressed his disappointment, stating: “The most important thing is the squad but the situation that happened with Jahouh in the last game cannot happen. It cannot happen. When you are a professional, you need to be professional 100%.”

Lobera further added: “You know how important you are as a player for the team. We cannot miss players in stupid situations like this. I spoke with him and I am not happy with this attitude. Jahouh has experience. He needs to manage the situation better.”

Jahouh subsequently served a one-match suspension in the 1-1 draw against Punjab FC. Notably, he was omitted from the squad in Odisha FC’s 3-1 triumph over Hyderabad FC. While no direct link has been confirmed, many believe his recurring disciplinary issues, especially the latest red card, may have played a pivotal role in his sudden exit.

Ahmed Jahouh: A Stalwart of the Indian Super League

Despite his recent controversies, Jahouh’s contribution to Indian football remains significant. Earlier this month, he etched his name into ISL history by becoming the foreign player with the most appearances — a remarkable tally of 150 matches. His journey in the league has seen him don the jerseys of FC Goa, Mumbai City FC, and most recently, Odisha FC.

Over his ISL career, the Moroccan midfielder has been an influential presence, registering nine goals and providing 29 assists. However, his aggressive style has occasionally been a double-edged sword, with a concerning record of 45 yellow cards and seven red cards.

A Legacy of Triumphs and Turmoil

Jahouh’s silverware collection is nothing short of impressive. The midfielder boasts three ISL Shields and an ISL Cup, with Mumbai City FC being the primary source of his trophy haul. His tenure with Odisha FC, though brief, showcased glimpses of brilliance, albeit overshadowed by moments of indiscipline.

What’s Next for Odisha FC and Jahouh?

Odisha FC now faces the daunting challenge of navigating the remainder of the season without their midfield lynchpin. With playoff aspirations hanging in the balance, the club must swiftly adapt to this setback. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Jahouh’s next move. Will he return to action elsewhere, or is this a pause in his illustrious career? Only time will tell.
