The ninth season of the Indian Super League (ISL) kicked off on October 7, 2022. The League is back, for longer this time, and with crowds. Chennaiyin are the most successful club in the history of the league among the active clubs with two titles to their name. Hyderabad are the reigning ISL champions while Jamshedpur are the defending ISL League Winners’ Shield champions. Let’s have a look at the best and worst team in this season so far.
ISL 2022-23 season so far
After hosting the last two editions of the league in Goa behind closed doors inside a bio-bubble, football returns to normalcy this season as fans will be back in the stadiums cheering for their favourite clubs. The league will be played in its regular home and away format.
The 2022-23 season will witness quite a few changes the most notable one being a six-team play-off instead of four teams. Teams ranked between a third to sixth will play a one-off play-off match and the winners will join the League Winners’ Shield champions and runners-up in the semifinal.
Hyderabad FC is performing the best this season so far. They got 10 Points in 4 matches with 3 wins and 1 draw. Their main strength is continuity and Coach Marquez’s ability to constantly bring through Indian youngsters. Odisha FC is situated second in the table with 9 points.
Northeast FC is at the bottom of the table with 4 losses in 4 matches. Their main weakness is there’s not a lot of quality within their Indian contingent, and the overseas players are a bit of an unknown quantity in Indian football. Kerala Blaster and East Bengal FC’s performance is not up to the mark this season so far.
