Liverpool legend and former England international, Robbie Fowler, has become the new head coach of East Bengal this season. East Bengal will start their ISL journey on 27th November against their old rival ATK Mohun Bagan FC with a derby.
Robbie Fowler started his managerial career in 2011 with Muangthong United and made them 3rd in the league in his first season. After that, he didn’t manage any team until last season. Robbie Fowler has managed Brisbane Roar last season in the Australian A-league who has finished fourth in the league. Unfortunately, the team lost in the knock out against Western United FC by 0-1.
After joining as a head coach of East Bengal FC, Robbie Fowler said, “The opportunity to coach this team in their first Hero ISL season is brilliant. The ISL is a league I have looked out for many years and when it first started. Football has been getting better over the years. Every year the competition gets stronger. My aim with SC East Bengal this year is to get as competitive as we can and try to do as well as we can in the league.”
Robbie Fowler wants to follow the tactics of current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The German manager has done an excellent job for Liverpool in the last few seasons. He has rebuilt the Liverpool squad and made them almost unbeatable. He has taken some time for the rebuilt. But finally, Liverpool has won UEFA Champions League in 2019 and Premier League in the 2019-20 season after 30 years.
Robbie Fowler wants to make a team full of confidence just like Liverpool. For this season he is targeting at least qualify for the play-offs in the club’s ISL debut season.
