Why the December 1 Date Is Unconfirmed

Telecom operators Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea are preparing to increase mobile plan prices by around 10 percent, with new rates expected to come into effect from December 2025, according to multiple industry reports. However, Jio explicitly stated in its Q2 FY26 earnings call that there are “no immediate plans” for a formal tariff hike.

The confusion stems from operators’ strategic approach: both Jio and Airtel have quietly phased out their entry-level 1 GB-per-day prepaid plans, effectively nudging users towards higher-value packs. Jio removed its ₹395 (84-day) and ₹2,545 (335-day) plans before the July 2024 hike, showing similar pre-hike patterns.

What Analysts Predict

Axis Capital and analyst Gaurav Malhotra predict tariff increases between December 2025 and June 2026. JP Morgan suggests a potential 15% hike by Jio ahead of its IPO, which could trigger similar increases by Airtel and Vi, following previous industry patterns.

The last major price hike occurred in July 2024 with 13-15% increases. Despite that hike, Jio and Airtel continued adding subscribers, indicating customer acceptance of higher pricing for better 5G infrastructure.

FAQs

Will telecom prices definitely increase on December 1, 2025?

No official confirmation exists; operators have not announced specific dates, though industry reports suggest December 2025 or Q1 2026.

Should I recharge now with a long-term plan?

If patterns from July 2024 repeat, long-validity plans may be removed before the hike, so recharging soon could save money.
