IPL 2024: RCB vs LSG – Match Preview, Prediction, Team News and Fantasy XI

The spotlight in the ongoing prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) turns once again to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, where the home team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will clash with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 15th match of the tournament on Tuesday, April 2. RCB has participated in three matches so far, securing one victory.

RCB vs LSG: Match Preview

Presently, RCB stands in ninth position with two points from three matches. On the contrary, Lucknow Super Giants hold sixth place in the rankings, clinching victory in one of their two matches played thus far. They aim to secure their second win of the season in the forthcoming encounter.

Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran showcased powerful hitting abilities, demonstrating the trademark range-hitting expected from seasoned T20 batsmen. The teams’ practice sessions on Monday indicated an approach emphasizing enjoyment, freedom, and fearlessness in batting. More individuals were positioned in the stands than on the field to return balls.

Except for Virat Kohli, RCB’s top order hasn’t yet hit its stride. Faf du Plessis hasn’t performed well in the last two games following a strong start in Chennai, while Cameron Green, their new No. 3, hasn’t experienced the same smooth transition as he did with the Mumbai Indians last year.

Concerns also loom over Rajat Patidar’s form. A revised middle order requires him to play a floating role, which hasn’t yielded results yet. Maxwell has struggled to adapt to slightly slower pitches.

RCB’s overseas player combination has also garnered attention, particularly with Alzarri Joseph conceding close to 12 runs per over across the initial three games, securing only one wicket. This might prompt a change, with Lockie Ferguson or Reece Topley in contention, alongside Akash Deep.

LSG’s focus has largely centered on KL Rahul’s fitness. After undergoing a series of fitness drills, he had a brief batting session, indicating hopes of his participation, at least as a batter.

Bowling coach Morne Morkel spent significant time discussing strategies with Mayank Yadav, the IPL’s emerging pace sensation. Meanwhile, Pooran, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda, and Ayush Badoni focused on extended batting sessions with the sole aim of hitting the ball long and hard.

All signs point towards an exciting, high-scoring contest, likely determined by which team hits more sixes.

RCB vs LSG: Pitch Report & Conditions

The pitch at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore is renowned as a paradise for batsmen, featuring short boundaries and conducive conditions for high-scoring matches. Spinners might find little assistance, urging batsmen to adopt a patient yet attacking approach throughout the game. Consequently, winning the toss could prompt the skipper to opt for setting a target, envisioning a strategic run chase at this venue.

In an effort to preserve the pitch, the curator has retained more grass than usual on the Chinnaswamy surface. Despite Bengaluru experiencing a heat wave with temperatures soaring up to 38 degrees Celsius, extensive portions of the outfield were shielded by hessian covers before the match. RCB coach Andy Flower remains confident that the pitch’s nature will remain consistent, anticipating scores of over 200 to be achieved.

RCB vs LSG: Head-to-head

In their head-to-head encounters, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have clashed four times. RCB emerged victorious in three of these matches, while LSG managed to secure a win in one. Their rivalry dates back to April 19, 2022, with their most recent encounter taking place on May 1, 2023.

RCB vs LSG: Team News and Impact Player Strategy

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

In the previous game, RCB introduced fast bowler Vyshak Vijaykumar as an Impact Sub for Dinesh Karthik. However, there’s a strong argument for Vyshak to be included in the starting XI. He showcased his potential during the 2023-24 domestic season, notably achieving a maiden first-class century and a List A fifty as a lower-order batter. When it comes to batting, Patidar or Mahipal Lomror could be prime candidates to act as Impact Subs, while Reece Topley is likely to be subbed in for bowling duties.

Probable XII:

  1. Virat Kohli
  2. Faf du Plessis (capt)
  3. Cameron Green
  4. Glenn Maxwell
  5. Rajat Patidar/Mahipal Lomror
  6. Anuj Rawat (wk)
  7. Dinesh Karthik
  8. Mayank Dagar
  9. Vyshak Vijaykumar
  10. Mohammed Siraj
  11. Yash Dayal
  12. Reece Topley

Lucknow Super Giants

LSG’s impact strategy heavily relies on the fitness of KL Rahul. Currently, it seems probable that they’ll bring in the hard-hitting Ashton Turner or Naveen-ul-Haq to replace Rahul or another batter.

Mayank Yadav has captured the attention of IPL fans, reminiscent of Umran Malik’s impact three years ago. Umran’s journey serves as an example for Mayank, illustrating the challenges of life in the fast lane. As a 21-year-old from Delhi capable of bowling over 155kph, Mayank won’t remain a novelty for long, and observing his evolution will be intriguing.

Probable XII:

  1. KL Rahul (capt)
  2. Quinton de Kock (wk)
  3. Devdutt Padikkal
  4. Nicholas Pooran
  5. Marcus Stoinis
  6. Krunal Pandya
  7. Ayush Badoni/Deepak Hooda
  8. Ravi Bishnoi
  9. Mohsin Khan
  10. Mayank Yadav
  11. M Siddharth
  12. Ashton Turner/Naveen-ul-Haq

RCB vs LSG: Match Prediction

Conversely, should Lucknow Super Giants win the toss and elect to bowl, the Power Play score is estimated to range between 55-65, with the first innings total reaching 190-200. Despite this, the prediction still favors Royal Challengers Bengaluru to emerge triumphant.

In both scenarios, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are anticipated to clinch the win, regardless of the toss outcome or the strategy adopted by the opposing team.
