Viacom18 will make all the tournament matches available to all internet customers for free viewing via the JioCinema app. On the other hand, Star Sports has roped in 11 sponsors so far for TV broadcasting. While Viacom18 has signed up more sponsors, the ad rate on Star is at least 5-6 times higher than what Viacom18 is charging for JioCinema. In addition to sponsors, both media giants have negotiated sponsorship agreements with companies in a variety of industries, including e-commerce, four-wheelers, consumer electronics, and auto accessories. Viacom18 has also enlisted a number of spot purchasers in addition to sponsors.

The IPL is known for its innovative and captivating advertising campaigns, and the upcoming 2023 season is no exception. JioCinema and Star Sports have rolled out their ad campaigns for the tournament, and the ad war seems to be brimming ahead of the tournament’s commencement.

JioCinema’s ‘satire on the redundancy of appointment viewing’ ad seems to have mustered the adland’s keen interest and mind space. The ad focuses on the viewing experience and features and has a small-town India vibe, overpowering music, and packed frames.

On the other hand, Star Sports’ ad celebrates the content and has an interesting visual idea. Both ads are similar in a lot of ways, and agency professionals are impressed with both.
