Chennai Super King’s CEO Kasi Vishwanathan confirmed that India’s former skipper MS Dhoni will be leading the team in IPL’s 2023 edition. The CEO believes that under his guidance the team will “do well” in the upcoming edition.

“Obviously everybody knows that Thalaivan (MS Dhoni) is the one who is going to lead the side and he will do his best”– he said

However, the team management hasn’t declared if this will be Dhoni’s last time but it can be speculated that this is Dhoni’s last time in CSK. The franchise has released Dwayne Bravo after 11 years. He was good with the ball but he couldn’t show his magic with the bat. The team management is focussing more on young players.

Besides Dwayne Bravo, the team also released Adam Milne, Chris Jordan, N. Jagadeesan, C. Hari Nishaanth, K. Bhagat Varma, and KM Asif.

While fans will be surely heartbroken after MS Dhoni’s departure but BCCI is thinking of making him a part of the T20 team. After India’s pathetic performance in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup, the Board had to look for his assistance. He will be working with India’s head coach Rahul Dravid. This isn’t official yet.

As per a CSK source “Dhoni could definitely be an asset to Team India even if he is not leading. However, MS hasn’t been approached yet. We will cross the bridge when the time comes. For now, he is the CSK captain and a stakeholder. Once there is an official approach from BCCI, he will discuss it.”

Even after his retirement, Dhoni won’t be allowed to accept a permanent position with Team India since he owns stock in CSK. He can only do this when he gives someone his shares or sells them to them.

The tough call that CSK will have to make while choosing the skipper for IPL 2024. While Ben Stokes and Kane Williamson are two good options but the former would be expensive.

The IPL 2023 auction will be held in Kochi on December 23.
