IPL 2022: Sanjay Bangar is the new coach of Royal challengers Bangalore, new captain yet to be decided Credits- The India Express

Sanjay Bangar replaced Simon Katich as the new coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022 and 2023. Bangar was the batting coach of RCB for the past two years. Earlier, Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from captaincy in IPL but the new skipper of the team is yet to be named.

In 2021, Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson was the interim head coach since Simon Katich quit ahead of Phase 2 citing bio-bubble fatigue. In the playoffs, RCB couldn’t win against KKR. Now it’s decided that Sanjay Bangar will be the head coach and Hesson will retain his position as the director of cricket title.

A video posted by RCB, where the franchise’s director Mike Hesson said “We have interviewed many guys and are please with the quality. But Sanjay was the standout candidate. He is highly respected as a coach. He is known as a batting coach but certainly has far more expertise than just that. We are very lucky to have Sanjay on board with us at the RCB and to be able to promote him as head coach,” 

Sanjay Bangar stated “Our work has already begun. We have all the coaches put their head together and have started working at the right earnest. I would like to assure that we will build a strong franchise. We are committed to achieving the long-cherished dream of winning an IPL title,”

Currently, RCB like every other franchise is finalising the players and the ones who will be retained Ahead of mega auction in the end of January. While there’s high probability that Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are to be retained in the team, the other players are yet to be finalised. Virat kohli is very confident about returning in the team next year as well.

Further he added that he doesn’t see himself playing in any other team of IPL other than RCB. As loyalty is everything that matters to him than other worldly things. He believes that the Franchise has shown faith in him and till his last IPL he will be playing for the team.
