IPL 2022 is just two days away. Fans can’t hold their excitement to support their favourite teams and experience a thrilling season yet again. MS Dhoni, the former skipper of Chennai Super Kings has handed over the responsibility to the all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Dhoni led the team from the inaugural season and this is the first time that he will be associated with the team only as a player. The franchise has also confirmed this news on their website.

It read as ” Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond”. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated that Dhoni desires the transition to be smooth and Jadeja was ready to take on the responsibility. In the team meeting on Thursday, Dhoni stated this decision, before the team left for training.

In the first match which will be held on 26th March, the defending champions will be facing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium.

The CEO further added that “He felt it is the right time to hand over the captaincy to Jaddu [Jadeja]. He feels Jaddu is also in the prime form of his career and it is the ideal time for him to lead CSK. What will be good for the franchise must be [in the] back of his mind.”

Jadeja has been a part of the team since 2012 and he is going to be the third player to lead the team after Dhoni and Suresh Raina.

It may be a surprise for the cricket fans but not for the insiders of the CSK franchise. They have been talking about the succession plan from a year before and Jadeja is the best person to take the team forward.

“He [Jadeja] has been talked to earlier. Even last year, there was a proposal. We knew he would be the best person to succeed MS.”- he said

A lot of speculations and rumours have been floating around regarding Dhoni and for how many years he will be playing. Dhoni assured the fans last year that he will play for CSK for another year.

Jadeja may have a lot of experience as a skipper but he is a terrific all-rounder and has a lot of experience playing for CSK under one of the best captains.
