With three days remaining for the IPL 2021 Auction to take place, Australian all-rounder Glen Maxwell has said that he would not mind playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as that would fulfill his desire of playing alongside his “idol” AB de Villiers.
During a media interaction on Thursday, he said, “That’ll be awesome. AB [is] one of my idols and one of the guys I’ve always tried to watch the way he goes about [things].” “It’ll be awesome to work with him, and he’s always been really helpful to me along the journey. Whenever I’ve caught up with him, he’s been brilliant. So to be able to work with him first hand will be pretty cool,” he added.
Previously, Maxwell has suited up for the Mumbai Indians once, the Delhi Capitals (DC) once and the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) twice.
“I get along with Virat pretty well. It’ll be certainly nice to work under Virat and will certainly enjoy batting with him – that’s for sure,” Maxwell said, about playing with RCB captain Virat Kohli.
Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir feels that Royal Challengers Bangalore may go after Glenn Maxwell in the upcoming IPL 2021 mini-auction. The former KKR captain feels Glenn Maxwell will still earn big, despite his indifferent returns in the IPL thus far. “There are teams who will be looking at someone like Maxwell. Surely, RCB will be looking at him. That is my personal opinion. Anything can happen at the auctions. But I feel Maxwell will go to RCB,” said Gambhir.
This year, Maxwell is in the IPL Auction’s highest price bracket of Rs 2 crore after being released by Kings XI Punjab. He has scored 108 runs at a strike-rate of 101.88 from 13 matches in the previous edition.
Currently, Maxwell is part of the Australian squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. “The Australian team is generally together for a one-day series somewhere in Australia and we get to watch it together and congratulate and commiserate each other depending on what they went for or if they didn’t go. So it’s stressful day for a lot of people, and I’ve been lucky to be on the good side of it a fair few times,” he said about following the IPL Auction with his Australian teammates.
The IPL 2021 auction will take place on February 18 at 3 PM.
