iPhone SE 4 Price Leak and 5 Key Upgrades Revealed

The iPhone SE lineup has always been the most budget-friendly option in Apple’s range. The last model, the iPhone SE 3, launched in March 2022, and now we’re expecting the iPhone SE 4 to be released soon, possibly in March. And it could also be known as the iPhone 16e. Before its official debut, there was speculation concerning its price worldwide and what we can see upgraded in the SE 4. According to a report by Korean publication Naver, citing information from an unnamed Japan-based carrier, the upcoming iPhone SE 4 will be priced at $500 (roughly ₹42,700) or less. This corroborates previous speculation about a $499 price point. For context, the iPhone SE 3 launched in India at ₹43,900, so if the SE 4’s price holds true, it would be more affordable.

The price drop may be due to Apple’s utilization of its in-house developed 5G modem, thus avoiding having to pay licensing fees to Qualcomm, the previous supplier. In comparison, the iPhone 16 series is still using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X70/75 modem. It won’t necessarily lead to a lower cost for consumers, but it could lead to a cheaper device. First, Apple might debut its in-house 5G modem (codename Centauri) in a limited role, before blending it into higher-end models. Note that the modem is almost sure to handle sub-6GHz 5G speeds (up to 4Gb/s) but not mmWave. It might also improve power efficiency, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS capabilities.

Next, the SE 4 could feature a new 6.1-inch OLED display with a boat-shaped notch, similar to the iPhone 14, which will house the front camera and Face ID sensors. This would be a major upgrade over the SE 3, which sports a 4.7-inch LCD display with a huge forehead and chin. Another big change is the switch to a USB-C port, mandated by the European Union. Similar to the iPhone 15 series, the SE 4 will swap out the Lightning port found on the SE 3 in favor of USB-C.

There might also be meaningful camera upgrades for the SE 4, including a 48MP rear camera and a 24MP front camera, a big leap over the 12MP rear camera, and 7MP front camera present on the SE 3. What’s most notable about that camera system, though, is how much it resembles the iPhone 7 Plus. Finally, Apple could add a ton of AI with the new SE. With its A18 chip and minute 8GB RAM, the SE 4 could have superior Apple Intelligence capabilities, resulting in more power and features.
