iPhone 17 Series: New Sizes, Features, and Design Changes

Apple resized the iPhone 16 Pro models’ displays this year in relation to the iPhone 15 Pro lineup. The company is predicted to adjust display sizes yet again in 2025 with the iPhone 17 series. The standard iPhone 17 is expected to come with a display measuring 6.3 inches, up from 6.1 inches on the current version and matching the existing iPhone 16 Pro.

Sitting between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in size implies changes in Apple’s lineup approach. It is worth mentioning Apple could drop the “Plus” model next year, replacing it with the iPhone 17 Air. The Air may feature a 6.5 to 6.6-inch display, nestled between the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, establishing a new segment for consumers.

Apple iPhone 17 Series: New Display Sizes, Features, and Design Upgrades Expected

Whereas, Apple will most likely retain the same display size with iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, with 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively, as has been the case with the iPhone 16 series. However, expect significant design tweaks, such as an aluminum body, a hybrid aluminum-glass rear, and a squarish camera module.

The two higher-end iPhone 17 models will reportedly feature a new 120Hz ProMotion display — marking the first time the feature may be available across all iPhone 17 models. It will also bring always-on displays to non-Pro models, which can refresh at as low as 1Hz for power savings.

We could see new display technology on the iPhone 17 Pro models, which would provide for improved power efficiency and longer battery life. A popular rumor is a scratch-resistant and anti-reflective coating like Samsung’s Gorilla Glass Armor.

Other expected upgrades are a considerably narrower Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, thanks to novel metalens running Face ID, which would become the first new look to the feature since its launch in 2022. It signals a new era in Apple’s design and display technologies, simultaneously reinforcing the company’s theme of optimizing performance and beauty in its flagship products.
