Nearly a decade has passed since Apple introduced 4K video recording with the iPhone 6 in 2015. But the company hasn’t refreshed the resolution since, trailing Android rivals. According to a new report, the iPhone 17 Series could finally add support for 8K video recording, a hefty improvement for video records on Apple devices.

iPhone 17 Series May Finally Support 8K Video Recording, Redesigned iOS 19, and a New Slim Titanium Model

According to a Weibo post by well-known tipster Fixed Focus Digital, the upcoming iPhone 17 Series will include 8K video recording. But if the Pro variants will only ship like that, only time will tell. Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max support 4K video capture at 120fps. Meanwhile, other Android brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Sony Xperia have supported 8K recording since 2023. This increased resolution means higher quality, sharper, and more detailed videos, but much larger file sizes.

Tipster also suggests an aluminium and glass design for the iPhone 17 Series. But it is said that the so-called iPhone 17 Air, potentially to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone so far, will be the only iPhone model made with Titanium. Apple is also said to be preparing a major software refresh for iOS and macOS. iOS 19 is set to introduce redesigned icons and menus to help users navigate, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

WWDC 2025 has been set by Apple for June 9, which will see the introduction of iOS 19, macOS 16, and more. The company is reportedly facing software challenges. The AI-powered Siri overhaul has been delayed for unspecified reasons, and several Apple Intelligence features have missed their original release timelines. With the iPhone 17 Series expected to launch in September, it remains to be seen how Apple will innovate to stay ahead of the competition.
