The iPhone 17 Air is quickly becoming one of the most leaked models, with new details about its design and features surfacing almost daily. It’s already rumored to be an ultra-slim device, potentially measuring just 5.5mm in thickness. Recently, a new report has revealed that Apple plans to reintroduce its Smart Battery Case for the smartphone.

iPhone 17 Air Set to Launch with Smart Battery Case, Slim Design, and New Camera Strip This September
According to The Information, Apple is coaxing accessory-makers into producing a Smart Battery Case for the upcoming device. As the name suggests, this case has an internal battery pack that can give your phone a charge while running. With the iPhone 17 Air’s thin form factor, its battery will probably be small, at 3,000mAh or 4,000mAh.
According to internal tests, the device will be usable throughout the day for only 60 to 70 percent of users without a recharge. Although a battery case could be offered as a solution for this problem, short battery life is still not really acceptable on a high-end phone, such as the iPhone 17 Air. The return of Apple’s Smart Battery Case is noteworthy, as the accessory originally debuted in 2015 with the iPhone 6s and continued until 2019 with the iPhone 11.
As for the iPhone 17 Air itself, it will be the thinnest iPhone to date, surpassing even the iPhone 6, which measures 6.9mm. It will also feature a new design, with a large camera strip running along the back, reminiscent of the Pixel 9 series. It’s expected to measure 163mm tall and 77.6mm wide.
The device will likely include a 6.9-inch LTPO Super Retina display with a Dynamic Island notch, similar to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Additionally, an action button, similar to current iPhone models, is expected. The upcoming smartphone is set to debut alongside the iPhone 17 lineup in September, with availability expected in India as well.
