iPhone 16 Series – Know The Display Manufacturers

With just weeks left until the iPhone 16 series debuts, eyes will now turn to the key suppliers of OLED display panels in Apple’s supply chain, namely LG Display and Samsung Display. This would allow both companies to supply OLED panels to Apple, which is believed to refer to the upcoming iPhone line-up because it has started its supplier approval process for the new models.

LG Display Takes the Lead

LG Display has historically been the second supplier to receive Apple approval behind Samsung Display. This has been the norm for Apple supply chain dynamics. But reports from South Korea indicate a pretty dramatic change: extended before Samsung Display said to tossed its hat into the (final) ring, LG Display is said to have beaten its competitor to have its OLED panels granted approval for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the hero model in the upcoming series. This marks the first time LG Display has outpaced Samsung Display in the approval process.

LG Display’s Competitive Edge

That LG Display was granted approval so early is a breakthrough for LG, which tends to join the supply chain for new iPhones later and only after initial volume production of new models by Apple has begun. This delay generally gives Samsung Display a large portion of the early orders at higher costs on these panels. LG Display stands a chance at chpping away at the lead of competition thanks to this new development.

Key Player – Samsung Display

In any case, while LG Display has already been given the nod, Samsung Display is said to also be in line to supply OLED panels for the iPhone 16 series. The reliability of the report is still pretty suspect, however, as we haven’t even seen the iPhone 15 models yet, let alone the beyond-the-horizon iPhone 16 models.. Samsung Display’s longstanding relationship with Apple and its substantial production capabilities mean it will continue to play a crucial role in the supply chain, though it might face increased competition and potentially lower margins.

Expanding Orders and Production

This year, LG Display has garnered a significantly larger share of Apple’s orders, not only for the iPhone 16 series but also for the OLED panels for Apple’s iPad Pros. This expansion highlights LG Display’s growing influence and capability in the OLED market. While Samsung Display remains a major supplier, it may now experience a slight reduction in its dominance and profit margins from its dealings with Apple.
