Larger displays for the pro models, a new capture button that would work like a high-end camera, and a pill-shaped camera bump are all reportedly part of the new design that Apple is working on for the entry-level iPhone 16.
iPhone 16 camera design leaked looks similar to iPhone X
Inspired by the iPhone X, the new design would enable spatial orientation video recording for standard iPhone 16 models.
Comprising two separate camera rings for the Wide and Ultrawide cameras, the pill-shaped camera bump is a stylistic nod to earlier prototype designs. Throughout the prototype phase, Apple has maintained the original vertical configuration of the camera lenses and flash, and this most recent version maintains that arrangement.
Leaked Majin Bu schematics that were shared on social media site X, based on internal designs, bolster MacRumors’ findings, the site claims. Photos taken by Bu also display the pill-shaped camera bump design of the iPhone 16.
Moreover, it remains uncertain if it would carry out the same strategy. If the design is unable to accommodate the better cameras, a larger camera hump—possibly akin to the iPhone 15 models—may be observed. On top of the reduced camera bump, Apple is also testing a change to the Action Button on the iPhone 16 models. The company is investigating a smaller Action Button as an alternative to the one found on the iPhone 15 Pro models.
