Apple’s upcoming iOS 19 update is expected to bring a major user interface overhaul, marking the first significant design refresh in years. Recent leaks have suggested that iOS 19 will bring both rounder app icons and a new “floating” tab view that appears within apps — both design elements allegedly inspired by Apple’s visionOS for the Vision Pro.

iOS 19 Leak Hints at Major Redesign with Rounder Icons, Floating Tabs, and visionOS-Inspired UI Elements
In a recent video on the FrontPageTech YouTube channel, tipster Jon Prosser has revealed mockups of the new interface based on internal builds that were leaked. He says the new Tab View will visually float slightly above the bottom of the screen, in the same vein as what is found in visionOS apps. They may move from the popular squircle shape into a more rounded form that doesn’t become a complete circle, as it is on Android devices.
Prosser had earlier shown redesigned Apple apps that used this new aesthetic. This new style looks ‘glassy’ and has similarities with the interface aesthetics introduced in visionOS. The updates are speculated to extend to Apple’s own array of built-in apps, giving a refreshed look and feel across the entire system.
Glimpses of this new path have already emerged in Apple’s software. Elements of the floating tab design in the redesigned Photos app on iOS 18, and the recently launched Invites app, demonstrating the new glassy UI elements, are likely previews of the things to come in iOS 19.
However, it’s important to note that not all of these leaks are guaranteed to reflect the final product. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman mentioned in his PowerOn newsletter that many of the shared mockups could be based on outdated versions of iOS 19. Apple will officially unveil iOS 19 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2025), which kicks off on June 9. Alongside iOS 19, the event will also showcase updates for macOS and other Apple platforms.
