At this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) Apple has unveiled iOS 18. In addition to the new Siri shortcuts, iOS 18 makes your home screen customizable, allows you to add a password to an app, let’s you customize the control center, and adds new features to the Messaging and Phone apps.
All About the iOS 18 Developer Beta
The iOS 18 developer beta is available now for download by registered Apple Developer program members, and iOS 18 will be released to the public later this year. Likewise, while iOS 18 is still under developer beta, you can try some of the features out now if you don’t mind running a developer beta on your iPhone.
Until now, joining the Apple Developer program would have cost $100 per year. But, last year, at the time of releasing the developer beta of iOS 17, Apple started a free tier to download developer betas with just your Apple ID.
Developer Betas are for developers to try and test their own apps on the next generation OS and file bugs. Those bugs can be crashes or some apps not working. Hence, you must be careful while downloading the developer beta. A public beta for iOS 18 will arrive later this month or in July with more stability.
iPhone XS and newer devices support iOS 18 only. Your phone must be updated to at least iOS 16.4 to download the iOS 18 developer beta as an over-the-air update. The current iOS version is 17.5.1. To revert to iOS 17, you will need a backup. To back up your phone, go to Settings, select your name, then select iCloud, choose iCloud Backup, and tap Back up Now.
