iOS 18.2 Beta Introduces ‘Battery Intelligence’ for Improved Charging Management

Apple has released a new update for developers in the form of the iOS 18.2 beta 2, which includes a new battery-related function — Battery Intelligence. This feature, which is still being tested, aims to give users an indication of how long it will take before the iPhone is fully charged to improve how users manage their iPhone charging process.

Battery Intelligence Coming in iOS 18.2  Beta

As per 9to5Mac, the “Battery Intelligence” feature determines how long it will take to finish a charge based on how much energy the device is drawing. The feature considers a combination of the charging rate and the selected battery level from the user. It is currently turned off in beta, but the underlying structure suggests Apple is gearing up to release an improvement that will offer a more user-friendly understanding of how one’s iPhone is charging.

Part of a larger Apple ecosystem, this is not exactly a new feature. There is a function with a similar function with macOS for MacBooks showing the charging time estimate (when plugged in) which the iPhone doesn’t have right now. Through this feature, Apple hopes to enhance the charging experience on iOS, particularly for those looking for a quick estimate to plan daily device usage with a charging time.

The new iOS update already introduced several battery-saving features, including the ability to limit the maximum charge to 80%, 85%, 90%, or 95% to help preserve battery health over time. That trait is especially handy for overnight chargers, which have a reputation for shortening battery life. Moreover, with iOS 18, users can get to know if their device was charged with a slow charger, providing additional context to charging times and means.

Apart from Battery Intelligence, we have iOS 18.2 bringing several AI emoji-based features, ChatGPT integration in Siri for better natural language processing, Genmoji, and Image Playground for creative expressions, Image Wand, and Visual Intelligence for capable photo editing and recognition tools, and several other features. Battery Intelligence might become a useful feature for iPhone users in terms of managing charging habits and preventing running out of battery at important moments.
