iOS 17 Safari features: latest features in Apple’s new browser
iOS 17 Safari features: In the latest iOS 17 update, Apple introduces several exciting features to enhance the Safari browsing experience. One notable addition is the Profile feature, building upon Tab Groups, which allows users to create distinct browsing profiles for different purposes, such as “Work” and “Personal.” With separate cookies, browsing history, extensions, and website data, users can keep their work-related browsing separate from their personal activities.
Moreover, private browsing windows now offer enhanced security with a locking mechanism that requires secondary authentication (Face ID/Touch ID scan or passcode) to access. This ensures that private browsing tabs remain confidential, even if someone else has access to the device.
iOS 17 also provides greater control over search engines, allowing users to choose separate search engines for standard and private browsing, offering more flexibility in their search preferences.
Privacy is further strengthened with the option to strip URLs of tracking information, preventing websites from using URL identifiers to monitor browsing activities. While this feature is automatically enabled for private browsing, it can be extended to all browsing for enhanced privacy. For added security, the iCloud Private Relay feature allows users to hide their IP address from both trackers and websites or just from trackers, safeguarding their location information.
Search functionality has been improved, making it more responsive and presenting a wider range of search suggestions for users’ convenience. Another useful addition is Siri’s capability to read websites aloud when Reader View is available, allowing users to listen to long-form articles or content while multitasking.
Additionally, iOS 17 introduces a secure password sharing feature, enabling users to share passwords and passkeys with friends and family for shared media accounts, utilities, bills, and more, all while maintaining security.
Lastly, certain privacy-focused settings, like Block All Cookies, Privacy Preserving Ad Measurement, and Check for Apple Pay, have been relocated to the “Advanced” section of Safari settings, making them less prominent but still accessible for those who prefer to customize their privacy preferences. Overall, iOS 17 offers a more intuitive and secure Safari browsing experience with these new features.
