Ioniq 6 EV gets first to peek from Hyundai as market share rises

Ioniq 6, the next all-electric vehicle from Hyundai, is getting an early peek from the automaker. According to the sources, the company’s EV market share is steadily rising in Europe and the US, drawing attention from even Elon Musk of Tesla.

Market Share Rises

If the all-electric Ioniq 5 crossover SUV from the previous year was influenced by 1970s styles, Top Gear claims that the 6 is influenced by streamlined automobiles from the 1920s and 1930s, such as the Stout Scarab. If you liked how Hyundai’s 2020 Prophecy concept car looked, the Ioniq 6 is what it has evolved into.

There are currently no concrete facts available regarding the Ioniq 6’s battery size or range because the South Korean carmaker is more interested in showcasing the vehicle’s design than its technological capabilities.

However, the vehicle shares the same Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) with the Ioniq 5, a vehicle with a 315-mile range on a single charge. The Ioniq 6’s sleek design has one of the lowest drag coefficients on the market—just 0.21—which could increase the range.

Ioniq 6 Features and Others

Two separate touchscreens can be found within the Ioniq 6: a 12-inch infotainment display and a 12-inch digital cluster. However, Hyundai has chosen tactile buttons for the settings you’ll frequently require while driving, such as radio and climate control.

Sangyup Lee, the head of Hyundai’s design department, told Ars Technica that while the touchscreen is fantastic when the car is still, it can be hazardous when it is going. We employ hardware for them in anything that has to do with safety. A touch interface will be used for everything that isn’t safety-related.

Other interior features include a fully flat floor, a stretched interior for “optimal legroom,” lights on the steering wheel that indicates when the car is charging or listening for voice instructions, and the option to light up the cabin with a choice of 64 colors, and more. In areas where they’re legal—which, as Ars points out, currently excludes the US—you can also choose camera door mirrors rather than standard wing mirrors.

The Ioniq 6’s price has not yet been confirmed, but according to Ars Technica, it is anticipated to be less expensive than the Ioniq 5, which has a starting price of $46,650. Next month is when production is anticipated to begin, and model year 2023 sales are anticipated in the US. On July 14, when it will officially premiere to the public, we should learn more specifics about when it will be released.
