Inter have qualified for the finals of the 22/23 Champions League, defeating their rivals, Milan, in the EuroDerby. The Nerazzurri won the second leg 1-0 in front of their own fans, and advanced on an average score of 3-0.
This is the first time that they have made it to the finals since their win in 2010. And they will face the winner of the other semi final, either one of Real Madrid or Manchester City.
Inter qualify for Champions League final by defeating Milan
One of the most evident takeaways from the game was Inter’s impenetrable defence. Denzel Dumfries in particular stuck to Rafael Leao like a magnet throughout the match, and barely allowed the winger to be productive.
On the counter attack, the newly crowned finalists were extremely effective and were able to cause Mike Maignan all sorts of problems. They controlled the game even without the ball, and their counter pressing was extremely effective, with Milan struggling to even stay on the ball for the most part.
Had it not been for the France international keeper, Inter could have had a few more goals in the second leg. Their only goal came through Lautaro Martinez, who managed to beat Maignan at his near post through a very powerful strike. They dominated Milan’s penalty box, as the former Scudetto winners were extremely passive.
The Nerazzurri have emerged as strong underdogs this season, especially on the back of their performance in the semi-final. As a result, it would be foolish to count them out of the race to win the Champions League, regardless of who they face in the finals.
