Intel’s DG2 might first appear as a discrete GPU for laptops

Intel is planning to establish its presence in the GPU market to launch its new DG2 GPU. In anticipation of its game-changer product, team blue is hyping up the release in the market for a year. Just look at the latest performance leaks from a few months ago; they positioned the high-end 512 EU model somewhere between an RTX 3070 and an RTX 3080 from Nvidia.

All the leaks and rumours so far only suggest one thing, that Intel is entering the graphics market this time around to stay, and it has a vendetta to crush its opponents and establish its dominance. However, according to a new leak, the DG2 might be first released on laptops, with desktop-size discrete GPUs coming later in 2022.

The rumour makes sense because Intel initially first launched its DG1 as a laptop GPU disguised as the Iris Xe MAX discrete GPU and then just recently launched it as a desktop-size graphics card. The same might very well be the case with the DG2 as well.

Another report claims a strong reason for intel first to launch the DG2 as a laptop GPU. Since it is difficult to find the AIB partners and the blue teams can easily offer an Intel CPU + Intel discrete GPU solution through its major laptop partners, which also provides considerable incentives. And as we know, many manufacturers are much happier to cut down on their AMD-based and Nvidia-based mobile offerings in favour of the new Intel DG2.

More importantly, since intel is just starting as a new entry in the GPU market, its GPU voltage and core clocks cannot yet go as high as the AMD and Nvidia desktop counterparts. However, the mobile versions of Intel’s new offering are performing decently in terms of the AMD and Nvidia’s cards right now.
