Intel to include the 396.2 mm2 die in its upcoming ARC Alchemist GPUs

Thanks to a leak from yesterday, the die sizes of Intel’s ARC Alchemist GPUs for gaming PCs and workstations have been revealed. Souza measured and detailed the die sizes and posted them on Twitter.

The DG2-512 (SOC1) and DG2-128 (SOC2) dies were visible in the images posted by Moore’s Law is Dead in his latest leak about the Intel ARC Alchemist GPU lineup. In comparison to the renders previously posted, it appears that these dies provide a more accurate representation of the actual die size. Despite this, Locuza’s previous numbers were very close to the actual figures.

According to the specifications, the Intel DG2-512 flagship die will be 396.2mm2, making it larger than both NVIDIA’s GA014 and AMD’s Navi 22 chips. NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3070(Ti) and AMD’s Radeon RX 6700 XT will be up against the DG2-512 GPUs.

NVIDIA’s chips have tensor cores as well as substantially larger RT/FP32 cores, whilst AMD’s rDNA 2 chips include a single ray accelerator unit per CU as well as Infinity Cache. Raytracing and AI-assisted super-sampling technology will be supported by specific hardware onboard Intel’s Alchemist GPUs.

The same is true for the DG2-128 die, which is somewhat smaller than the render’s die size of 156.4mm2 and measures roughly 147.7-154.9mm2. This is also significantly smaller than the 200mm2 TU117 die against which the chip will compete. The GA107 die size is unknown at this time, although it is expected to be between 160 and 180mm2.

Intel Xe-HPG 512 EU GPUs Powered ARC Alchemist Gaming Graphics Lineup

At least three configurations are said to be available for the top Alchemist 512 EU (32 Xe Cores) variant. The full die has 4096 cores, a 256-bit bus interface, and up to 16 GB of GDDR6 memory with a 16 Gbps clock, though 18 Gbps is possible, according to rumors.

  • 512 EU (4096 ALUs) / 16 GB @ Up To 18 Gbps / 256-bit / 225W (Desktops) & 120-150W (Laptops)
  • 384 EU (3072 ALUs) / 12 GB @ Up To 16 Gbps / 192-bit / 150-200W (Desktops) & 80-120W (Laptops)
  • 256 EU (2048 ALUs) / 8 GB @ Up To 16 Gbps / 128-bit / 60-80W (Laptops)

Last but not least, the Intel Xe-HPG Alchemist 128 EU (8 Xe Cores) components. The full-fat SKU with 1024 cores is available in two configurations: a 96-bit and a 64-bit edition with 6 GB and 4 GB memory capacity, respectively.

The stripped-down version will include 96 EUs (768 cores) and 4 GB GDDR6 memory on a 64-bit bus interface. The processor will also have a clock speed of roughly 2.2-2.5 GHz and power consumption of less than 75W, implying that entry-level graphics cards will be connector-free.

Following are all the ARC 128 EU variants that we can expect based on the DG2-SOC2:

  • 128 EU (1024 ALUs) / 6 GB @ Up To 16 Gbps / 96-bit / ~75W (Desktops)
  • 128 EU (1024 ALUs) / 4 GB @ Up To 16 Gbps / 64-bit / 35-30W (Laptops)
  • 96 EU (768 ALUs) / 4 GB @ Up To 16 Gbps / 64-bit / ~35W (Laptops)
