Intel showcases the Core i9-11900K at CES 2021

Intel has finally made its new 11th Gen Rocket Lake-S desktop CPUs official at CES 2021 and the spotlight of the show was none other than the heavily leaked Core i9-11900K. There’s a lot of good things that Rocket Lake will finally bring to Intel’s mainstream desktop processors.

Finally, there’s an architecture overhaul, Intel has ditched it tic-tock formula that has been adopted for over 5 years now. This new architecture has been backported from 10nm although the node used for the processor is still 14nm. However, features like PCIe 4.0 support is what that will encourage Intel fans finally!

Intel is using a revamped architecture based on the Sunny Cove (Ice Lake) architecture called the Cypress Cove. Although this time 11th Gen Core processors will be stuck up to 8 cores and 16 threads but feature 50% more integrated graphics power, thanks to the new Xe architecture which we see in Intel’s latest Tiger Lake mobile CPUs.

Intel also demonstrated next-generation desktop technology for gamers and enthusiasts coming to market in 11th Gen Intel® Core™ S-series desktop processors (“Rocket LakeS”). Featuring 19% gen-over-gen instructions per cycle (IPC) improvement for the highest frequency cores and headlined by the Intel Core i9-11900K, these processors will bring even more performance to gamers and PC enthusiasts at launch in the first quarter of 2021.-Intel CES 2021 Press Release

Also, the leaks seemed true as the new Rocket Lake S desktop processors will be able to boost up to 5.3 GHz, and the flagship being the new Core i9-11900K. While the all-core turbo will go up to a whopping 4.8 GHz which can give some problems to AMD’s impressive Ryzen 5000 series processors.

These new Rocket Lake processors will feature 20 CPU based PCIe 4.0 lanes, giving the support for PCIe Gen 4 finally! Also, these new CPUs feature a new Deep Learning Boost and VNNI support to speed up AI-related workflows. Intel has also confirmed these features on the new 500 series chipset motherboards and backward compatibility with 400 series motherboards.

Then you have support for the new USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 standard and Intel’s powerful 12th generation Xe graphics iGPU that promises a good iGPU gaming experience out-of-the-box. Along with these, finally, Intel has ramped up the RAM speeds to DDR4-3200 without any overclocking.

Intel says although Rocket Lake-S is based on 14nm architecture, it has achived a significant 19% IPC gain. With boost clock speeds of 5.3 GHz and with other new features, Intel has finally given something to cheer for in years, also Intel is said to have snatched back its gaming crown from AMD.
