Intel’s Project Amber is built for Cloud-to-Edge and On-Premises Security

On the second day of Intel Vision, the firm focused on solutions to satisfy today’s security needs while also assisting organisations in preparing for future issues, and thus Project Amber was introduced to the World. Intel has provided an independent trust certification authority in the form of a novel service-based security implementation called Project Amber, which focuses on one of the most critical security factors for any organisation: trust.

The company also exhibited safe and responsible AI implementations, as well as its power quantum-resistant cryptography technique for the future era of quantum computing.

Businesses rely on the cloud to support their remote workforce, which requires various devices, constant access, and collaboration capabilities. Data must be protected not just in memory and in transit, but also when it is in use, to secure precious resources and reduce the risk of an attack. In the cloud, edge, and on-premise systems, Project Amber allows enterprises to remotely evaluate the reliability of an IT resource.

Project Amber separates from the infrastructure provider that hosts the sensitive computing workloads

It’s a burgeoning market for confidential computing, which involves conducting calculations in a TEE (trusted execution environment) based on hardware. Intel Software Guard Extensions (Intel SGX), which is available on the Intel Xeon Scalable platform, is one of the most important technologies powering secret computing today, enabling profitable cloud use cases for companies that handle sensitive data on a regular basis.

A structured attestation process establishes the foundation of trust in a confidential IT environment. Customers who need to secure their data and intellectual property while moving critical workloads to the cloud must first verify this reliability.

This service, which is cloud-agnostic, will handle sensitive IT workloads in the public cloud, private/hybrid cloud, and at the edge. The use of a third party to offer attestation helps to strengthen confidential computing security by providing impartiality and independence.

Project Amber will handle secret computing workloads deployed as “bare metal” containers, virtual machines (VMs), and containers operating in virtual machines using Intel TEE in its first release. In the first version, Intel TEE will be supported, with intentions to expand compatibility with other platform devices and other TEEs in the future.

Intel is also collaborating with several independent software vendors to enable trust services, such as Project Amber. New software tools, such as public APIs that allow ISVs to embed Project Amber into their software and services, will help customers and partners better understand Intel’s platforms and technologies.

In the second half of 2022, Intel expects to launch a Project Amber pilot for clients, followed by full market availability in the first half of 2023.
