Intel officially unviels its 12th Generation Alder Lake-P and Alder Lake-U Laptop CPUs

The P-series for high-end mobility systems and the U-series for entry-level mobility devices will make up Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake mobility range. The advent of hybrid cores, which combine Golden Cove (P-Cores) and Gracemont (E-Cores) on a 10nm ESF (Enhanced Super Fin) process node, is the most significant modification to the lineup. Intel is introducing a total of 28 new SKUs today, with 14 P and 14 U series. Let’s take a look at the P-series lineup first.

The debut of new H-series mobile processors with the flagship Intel Core i9-12900HK – the fastest mobile CPU ever and the world’s best mobile gaming platform – built on the Intel 7 process is the centrepiece of Intel’s 12th Gen Core family of mobile processors.

The new Intel Core desktop processors with ultimate scalable power and performance for gaming, creation, and productivity are available in 65- and 35-watt models. Intel has released details on the upcoming 12th Generation Intel Core U- and P-series mobile processors, which will power the latest ultra-thin and light laptop designs.

Intel has released Intel Evo platform updates, including new standard technologies and key experience indicators (KEI), such as intelligent collaboration. Intel has announced two new Intel vPro platform options, vPro Essentials and Intel vPro Enterprise, for commercial support, spanning small businesses to giant corporations.

Taking full advantage of the performance per watt benefits of the Intel 7 process, new 12th Gen Intel Core mobile processors for thin-and-light designs deliver:

  • All-new core architecture with up to 14 cores (6 P-cores and 8 E-cores).
  • Integrated Iris Xe graphics with up to 96EU.
  • Broad memory support for DDR5/LPDDR5 and DDR4/LPDDR4.
  • Incredible scale with up to 70% faster multi-thread performance.
  • Nearly 2x performance for 3D rendering — ideal for creators on the go.
  • Superior productivity performance with up to 30% faster photo editing.
  • Integrated Intel® Wi-Fi 6E (Gig+) for improved wireless performance, responsiveness, and reliability.
  • Thunderbolt 4 for the fastest, simplest, and most reliable cable solution to any dock, display, or accessory.
  • Intel IPU 6.0 for high image quality and power efficiency for enhanced video conferencing.

The whole Tiger Lake-H45, H35, and UP3 chip portfolio will replace the Intel Alder Lake-P series. The highest SKU will have 14 cores, which will be made up of 6 Golden Cove cores and 8 Grace Mont cores. Two Golden Cove cores and eight Gracemont cores will be used to replace the Tiger Lake-UP3 series. Both GT2 and GT3 Xe configurations with up to 96 Execution units will be available on the chips.

The 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900HK is the fastest mobile processor, with up to 5 GHz rates, 14 cores (6 P-cores and 8 E-cores), and 20 threads. It outperforms Intel’s previous generation and the competition in terms of performance. The performance extends to top gaming games and content development tools for unrivalled gaming experiences. The new 12th Gen Intel Core H-series is the world’s most powerful mobile gaming platform, with up to 28% quicker gaming performance than the previous industry leader, the Intel Core i9-11980HK. The 12th Gen Intel Core H-series for content creators is more than capable.

DDR5/LPDDR5 and DDR4/LPDDR4 modules up to 4800 MT/s are supported, a first in the industry for H-series mobile processors. Nearly three times quicker connectivity on dedicated high-speed channels with no interference from conventional Wi-Fi. Users may work and learn from home and relax with smooth, high-quality streaming thanks to the included Intel® Wi-Fi 6E (Gig+)v. Support for Thunderbolt 4 allows for up to 40Gbps transfer speeds and PC connecting to multiple 4K monitors and devices.
