Intel plan for ‘Make in India’ laptops; collaborates with manufacturers in India

Intel has announced its collaboration with eight renowned Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) to accelerate laptop manufacturing in India. Bringing its end-to-end knowledge of the IT industry ecosystem, Intel provided key technological and operational insights to lay the foundations of a robust laptop manufacturing industry in the country. This initiative underscores Intel’s dedication to accelerate technology-led growth in alignment with the Make in India initiative.

The companies Intel has collaborated with include Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd. For certain of these companies, this marks their first foray into laptop manufacturing. This collaboration between Intel and the Indian manufacturing ecosystem is aimed at enabling them to meet both domestic and global demand.

Intel collaborates with manufacturers in India for ‘Make in India’ laptops

Under this collaboration, Intel shared its expertise to facilitate the production of complete entry-level laptops in India, which included utilizing state-of-the-art SMT lines, setting up a quality control process for components and even benchmarking of finished products. Intel also provided support to ODMs spanning both Semi Knocked Down (SKD) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) processes.

Intel will be hosting the India Tech Ecosystem Summit later in November, which will bring together a vast number of local manufacturers to showcase a much larger portfolio of devices being made in India. India’s electronics manufacturing industry stands at an exciting crossroads, with an array of opportunities on the horizon. Intel is committed to enabling access and opportunities for the technology ecosystem in India including Indian IT product manufacturers and will continue collaborating with the government, industry, and start-up community to create a meaningful impact for the country.
